Response to an email I received the other day

The other day I received and email asking if the Health Commission Wales (HCW) have decided to help those living in Wales with funding for Gender Reassignment Surgery yet?
The only answer I can currently give is, I don’t think so!
It’s seems very hard to get any sense out of the HCW and if you do get in touch with them you will receive a standard letter which they seem to send out to everyone asking about GRS funding, that’s if you are lucky to receive anything off then at all.
The problem lies in the fact that the HCW seem to have no idea of what those diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria have to go through, all the mental anguish, loss of family and all the heart ache involved, they also seem to think that their is no clinical need for surgery and that anyone diagnosed and having gone though the years of living in their “real” roll is just a waste of time and of the HCW’s funding.
So if you do live in Wales and you are visiting your clinical psychologist and they say that you are eligible for surgery, ask them the simple line of questions:
How much is it going to cost me?
Where can I get the surgery performed?
Will the HCW fund my hormones etc?
Is it likely that the HCW will EVER fund the surgery?
Don’t get your hopes up if you are told that the HCW WILL fund your surgery as this is very unlikely. If you are just starting on your long journey then my recommendation is start saving NOW!
