Back home after my Gender Surgery

Hi all, here’s my little update to the blog on how it all went at Nuffield Hospital. I wrote this out in the hospital on the back of an evelope ready for the blog.

Friday 13th

Arrived at Nuffield Hospital for my 10am appointment for the routine blood test and to take a powerful laxative to make sure my bowls are totally empty

Saturday 14th

Went into surgery about 9:15am with Mr Terry, woke about 2pm with my wonderful supportive mother by my side.

Sunday 15th

First day after surgery, everything ok, no pain, but nothing to eat only water to drink.

Monday 16th

In the early hours I had a bit of irritation from the catheta, but took some pain relief to help besides that no pain (wonderful)

Tuesday 17th

Seen Mr Terry today he seems happy with everything and said I can have a light breakfast ready for the packs to be removed.

Wednesday 18th

Had my first feed today, had a small bowl of cornflakes (lovely!) had a coffee around 10am (hmmmm), 12pm had some soup and a roll. 10pm Had my pack and dressings removed. Very emotional time it’s wonderful that finally after all these years, my surgery is finally complete and virtually painless!

Thursday 19th

Had a lovely card this morning with a big hug waiting for me to get home.
With the food I’ve eaten I’ve got the urge to deficate, got up for the first time today a bit wobbly at first, but soon moving around, took a shower later on in the evening, just feeling a bit tired at the moment.
Had a sleeping tablet, but cried for a while with pure joy before I wenst to sleep, after seven years I’m finally whole!
Mr Terry should be coming to see me sometime today, hopefully the catheta should be taken out tomorrow and I should be leaving Sunday.
Mr Terry came to see me at 9:15pm and is very happy with the  results of the surgery.
I phoned mum to come for a big hug and some cuddles, had night sedation for a good nights sleeps ready for the catheta coming out on Friday.

Friday 20th

Had my catheta out today at about 9:15am, wonderful a little cough, a warm sensation and it was out, I’ll get up later and have a shower as now it is important to keep a hygene routine with a shower once or twice a day. 1:40pm first pee since having the catheta removed, sprayed a bit but that’s part of the process.

Saturday 21st

Last day today, just waiting for Mr Terry to show me how to dilate and then out tomorrow.
Still standing to pee at the moment but that should stop in a short time after the brusing/swelling has gone down and then I should be able to sit down as normal. Mr Terry has just been to see me (1:40pm) to show me how to dilate, ooo that’s an experience, it has to be done three time a day for about 10-15 minutes, he also also given me a relaxent so I don’t strain when going to the loo for a number 2. Also have to remember not to cross my legs so that the “area” gets plenty of room and air.
8:50pm Just did my first dilation and douche, I was a bit nervous at first, but it was easier than I thought.
10:15pm Had my second dose of relaxent

Sunday 22nd

Had my breakfast and a movement. Now it’s a case of getting everything ready to leave for the journey home

If you like what you see, buy me a coffee!

    Hi

Congratulations on your surgery, I saw your blog and thought I’d answer your blog. I also noticed you reassigned by Dr Tim Terry, I have heard from my PCT that Dr Tim could be my surgeon. Can I ask how satisfactory you were with the surgery itself, as I’m interested given Tim could do my surgery sometime in 2009.

I will sign your GRS Wales petition, as I campaign for transsexual awareness and rights issues, as I have a petition to end the postcode lottery in healthcare for transsexuals http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/healthcare4ts/

Today I had a meeting at my PCT’s headquarters, a 2 year battle to get a better pathway of care, and it looks as if I will now start to get some procedures funded, starting with facial hair removal.

    xx Stephanie
